Vegetarian Shawarma Recipe

For anyone following a special diet or avoiding meat: the long-awaited fully plant-based replacement for meat shawarma. Here is the vegetarian shawarma recipe—enjoy.

Ingredients

Start here, then move straight into the method.

  • 2 cups canned mushrooms
  • 1 beetroot
  • 1 green pepper
  • 1 teaspoon shawarma spice
  • 1 teaspoon paprika (ground red pepper)
  • 1 onion
  • 2 tomatoes
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 small cup vegetable oil
  • salt

Method

Follow the cooking sequence without leaving the page.

  1. Chop all the ingredients. Place the mushrooms, pepper, onion, and beet, drizzle with oil and spices, and marinate for an hour.
  2. After the marinating time, fry the vegetable mixture on high heat for 2 minutes, then reduce to low heat and cook with occasional stirring for about 10 more minutes.

  3. Then remove the beet as its job is done for giving a color similar to meat. Add the tomatoes and olive oil and stir the mixture.
  4. Serve the vegetarian shawarma like meat shawarma with assorted vegetables and french fries.
