Falafel Mix Method

Why buy pre-made falafel when you can make it at home? This recipe is very easy to follow, clear, and doable with kitchen staples.

Ingredients

Start here, then move straight into the method.

  • 2 cups dried chickpeas
  • 1 cup crushed fava beans
  • 1 head garlic
  • 1/2 bunch fresh cilantro
  • 1 tablespoon ground coriander
  • 1 tablespoon falafel spice
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking soda
  • Salt to taste

Method

Follow the cooking sequence without leaving the page.

  1. Soak the chickpeas and fava beans in water overnight; the next day they will be soft—drain them in a sieve and remove all the water.
  2. Grind the chickpeas and then the fava beans in an electric grinder until you have a very smooth mixture.
  3. Mix the legumes with fresh cilantro, assorted spices, and salt.
  4. Form the mixture into small balls and deep-fry them in plenty of hot oil.
  5. If the falafel balls fall apart while frying, add two tablespoons of flour or one tablespoon of cornstarch to the mixture and mix well.
  6. Serve the falafel with tartar sauce and assorted vegetables such as radish, parsley, and tomato.
