Churros dough — sweet, tasty and easy. Traditionally fried into fingers, but this lighter version is baked in the oven. Here is how.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 tablespoons brown or white sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup flour
  • 3 eggs
  • liquid chocolate* for serving
  • For coating:
  • 1/4 cup white sugar
  • a pinch of salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Method

  1. Put the water, butter, and sugar in a saucepan over the heat and stir
  2. When it boils, add the flour gradually and cook over low heat while stirring
  3. When the mixture dries out, turn off the heat and let it cool, then add the eggs one at a time with the vanilla and stir with a wooden spoon until the mixture is somewhat soft
  4. Put the dough into a piping bag and shape them as desired or using a churros nozzle. Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper
  5. Put them into a preheated oven at 200°C for about a quarter of an hour... then turn off the oven
  6. Leave them in the oven for about another quarter of an hour until the churros dough cools inside the oven
  7. Decorate the churros dough with sugar mixed with cinnamon and a pinch of salt, and dip it in chocolate when serving
  8. Serve the churros dough while hot
