A very easy, tried-and-true homemade beef shawarma recipe. Learn the marinade ingredients as well as the parsley salad and the tahini/tarator sauces served with it. Delicious served as a sandwich.

Ingredients

Start here, then move straight into the method.

  • Sliced beef suitable for shawarma
  • White vinegar
  • Shawarma spices
  • Ground cardamom
  • Vegetable oil
  • Onion
  • Tomatoes
  • Parsley salad
  • Onion, sliced
  • Finely chopped parsley
  • A pinch of salt
  • Sumac
  • Tahini sauce
  • Tahini
  • Lemon juice
  • Water

Method

Follow the cooking sequence without leaving the page.

  1. Marinate the shawarma meat with all the marinade ingredients starting the night before.
  2. Place the shawarma in the oven on a tray with onion slices and let the meat cook.
  3. Add slices of tomato and return the tray to the oven for a few extra minutes to soften the tomatoes.
  4. Prepare the parsley salad by mixing all its ingredients.
  5. Prepare the tarator or tahini sauce: add the lemon to the tahini, add salt and whisk. Begin adding the water gradually while whisking to obtain a medium-thick sauce.
  6. Serve the shawarma with the parsley salad and tarator.
