Ingredients

Start here, then move straight into the method.

  • 6 cups flour
  • 1 cup warm liquid milk
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 3/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon yeast
  • Coating the simit
  • 1/4 cup honey dissolved in 1/4 cup water
  • Or
  • 1 beaten egg with a pinch of vanilla
  • Garnish
  • Sesame seeds or nigella seeds

Method

Follow the cooking sequence without leaving the page.

  1. In a bowl, put the flour with the salt, add the oil, and mix well.
  2. Add 1 cup lukewarm milk and knead briefly.
  3. Dissolve the yeast with the sugar in 1 cup lukewarm water, then gradually add it to the dough and knead well.
  4. Let the dough rise for half an hour.
  5. Shape the dough into braids or rounds and leave them again for 15 minutes to rise.
    Timers: 15 min
  6. After the time has passed, place the simit on a baking tray and brush the tops with a honey or egg wash, then sprinkle with sesame or nigella seeds.
  7. Bake in a preheated oven until cooked and nicely browned.
  8. Serve the Turkish simit with a cup of tea or as desired.
