Soft, delicious sammoun bread that will fill your home with its wonderful aroma, made with a tried-and-tested homemade recipe. Here’s how to make it.
Ingredients
Start here, then move straight into the method.
- 1 kilo flour
- 2 heaping tablespoons sugar
- 1 tablespoon yeast
- A pinch of salt
- About 3 cups warm milk, or as needed
- Or powdered milk dissolved in 3 cups water
- 1/4 cup oil
- 1 egg
- 2 tablespoons butter
- Brushing the top
- 1/4 cup liquid milk + 1 teaspoon Nescafé
- or
- 1 beaten egg with 1/4 cup liquid milk
- Sesame seeds for the top
Method
Follow the cooking sequence without leaving the page.
- Mix the flour with the dry ingredients.
- Add the oil and egg and mix.
- Add the liquid milk gradually and knead until you get a soft dough, not stiff.
- Finally, add the butter at room temperature and knead well.
- Cover the dough and let it rest for an hour or more.
- Once the dough has risen, take pieces from it (without kneading again) and shape them as desired, either into balls or logs.
- Place the pieces on a baking tray, making sure they are spaced apart so they do not stick together as they rise. Leave them in the tray to rise and rest again.
- Brush the tops with the milk and Nescafé mixture or with the egg and milk, then sprinkle with sesame seeds.
- Preheat the oven from above and below, and bake in a hot oven over high heat until the bread is cooked through and browned.
