- 1 kg flour (5 or 6 cups)
- 1/2 cup oil or ghee
- 1 teaspoon mahleb
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 tablespoon yeast
- A pinch of salt
- 1 cup yogurt
- 1 tablespoon vinegar to help soften the dough
- 1 cup liquid milk

Method
- Mix the dry ingredients first, then add the oil, vinegar, and yogurt, then mix and begin kneading the ingredients with the warm milk.
- If liquid milk is not available, it can be replaced with powdered milk, reconstituted with an appropriate amount of water.
- Knead well for at least 10 minutes until you have a homogeneous dough.
- Let the dough rest for half an hour before shaping.
- Divide the dough into medium-sized pieces, shape each into rounds or balls as suits kunafa cookies.
- Cover or dip the cookies in sesame, place them on a baking tray, and leave them to rest for about two hours.
- After the resting time, bake the kunafa cookies in a preheated oven at 180°C until they turn golden.
