How Do I Make the Tastiest and Easiest Safouf?

An easy and very delicious recipe for making safouf... Safouf is one of the most loved and well-known traditional desserts across the Arab world.

Ingredients

Start here, then move straight into the method.

  • 4 cups fine semolina (farikha flour)
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup ghee
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 2 teaspoons turmeric
  • 3 cups sugar
  • 3 cups liquid milk, or orange juice, or anise tea
  • 1/2 cup milk powder
  • 1 teaspoon (2 grams) yeast
  • Ice cream tar t with cotton candy

Method

Follow the cooking sequence without leaving the page.

  1. Mix all the dry ingredients well and sift them through a sieve, then add the liquid ingredients. You can choose to use liquid milk, orange juice, or warm anise tea.
  2. Grease a suitable safouf pan with tahini and pour in the safouf mixture.
  3. Let the safouf batter rest for about half an hour at room temperature.
  4. Place the safouf pan in a preheated oven at 180 degrees for about 40 minutes, or until cooked through and risen, depending on your oven.

  5. Then brush the top of the safouf tray with syrup, sugar syrup, or a mixture of milk and sugar to give the safouf a beautiful shine
