Ingredients

  • 2 cups powdered milk
  • 5 1/2 cups water
  • 1/2 small cup lemon juice
  • or 1/2 small cup white vinegar
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • 1 tablespoon rose water
  • 1 tablespoon orange blossom water
  • 1 can ready-made qaymar (ashta) or cream
  • In the final stage, mix the first and second mixtures together after they have fully cooled and add a can of ready-made canned cream or qaymar.

Method

  1. Prepare the ashta in two stages. In the first stage, combine the powdered milk with the water and mix well so it dissolves over low heat. Once the milk is warm, add the lemon juice. You can substitute the lemon juice with the same amount of white vinegar or half a teaspoon of citric acid. One of these three ingredients will be enough to curdle the milk and turn it into crumbly pieces called "curd".
  2. Set the curds aside until they cool completely.
  3. Meanwhile, over low heat, combine the cup of liquid milk with the sugar, flour, and cornstarch. Mix well so the mixture does not clump. Once the mixture thickens, add the rose water and orange blossom water.
  4. Leave the mixture to cool as well.
  5. In the final stage, mix the first and second mixtures together after they have cooled completely, then add one can of ready-made canned ashta or qaymar.
