Hamisa shrimp — a Gulf recipe made the traditional way. Very tasty and easy.
Ingredients
- 500 g cleaned shrimp (prawns)
- 1 dry onion, finely chopped
- 4 garlic cloves, crushed
- 1 hot pepper (red or green) to taste
- 1/2 tsp fresh ginger, minced or crushed
- 1 large tomato, diced
- 1/2 cup fresh coriander (cilantro), chopped
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 1 tsp dried coriander
- 1/2 tsp ground cumin
- 1/2 tsp ground cardamom
- 1 tsp curry powder
- A pinch of black pepper
- Sesame seeds for garnish

Method
- Sauté the onion in a little oil until it begins to brown, then add the garlic, hot pepper and ginger and fry until aromatic. Add the cleaned shrimp and cook until the liquid evaporates.
- Add all the spices and stir so the shrimp absorb the flavors.
- Add the diced tomato, then the chopped coriander and stir.
- Stir in the tomato paste as well.
- Let the hamisa simmer for just five minutes, then remove from the heat and add a squeeze of lemon, stirring once more.
- Garnish with sesame seeds and serve hot with rice, or enjoy with Arabic bread.
