Ingredients

  • 500 g cleaned shrimp (prawns)
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 2 cups crushed cornflakes or finely crushed cake crumbs
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp ground ginger
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp red chili powder (optional)

Method

  1. Sprinkle the spices over the shrimp, then coat them with flour on all sides.
  2. Beat the eggs with a pinch of salt in a bowl, then dip the shrimp one by one into the egg.
  3. Cover each shrimp with cornflakes or breadcrumbs by dipping them one at a time, taking care not to press them.
  4. Fry the shrimp in plenty of hot oil until they turn golden.
  5. Serve the fried shrimp with a variety of sauces such as sweet-chili sauce or ketchup and mayonnaise.
  6. How to make the sweet-chili sauce:
  7. Mix two tablespoons of ketchup with one tablespoon of honey, a pinch of salt, and a pinch of dried ground red chili pepper.
  8. Mix two tablespoons of ketchup with two tablespoons of mayonnaise, a squeeze of lemon, and one tablespoon of mustard.
