Healthy za'atar crackers are a delicious, diet-friendly snack suitable for anyone following a weight-loss plan.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 1/2 cups rolled oats
  • 3/4 cup za'atar — increase to taste
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons sesame seeds
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 1/2 cups water — adjust according to the dough's needs
  • Nigella seeds (black seed) — optional

Method

  1. Combine the dry ingredients: flour, oats, salt and baking powder.
  2. Add the za'atar and sesame seeds — adjust the za'atar amount to your preference.
  3. Stir in the oil, then gradually add the water while mixing.
  4. The exact amount of water depends on the flour; add enough to form a cohesive dough.
  5. Place the dough on parchment paper and roll it out thinly with a rolling pin.
  6. Keep the dough on the parchment and transfer it to your baking tray.
  7. Cut the dough into small squares or long fingers, as you prefer.
  8. Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) for 15–20 minutes, depending on your oven, until the crackers are golden.

  9. Remove from the oven once cooked and serve with tea, labneh, cheese, or enjoy as a snack.
