Chicken Musakhan with Saj Bread

Chicken musakhan is a delicious, easy recipe made with a few simple, budget-friendly ingredients! We also recommend using pre-boiled chicken you may have on hand and not know what to do with—musakhan is definitely the answer.

Chicken musakhan with saj bread.. if you're craving a tasty recipe with simple ingredients that really fills you up, you can make musakhan with saj bread! The sumac flavor should really come through in the filling so the dish stays authentic!

Ingredients

Start here, then move straight into the method.

  • Chicken
  • 2 onions, thinly sliced
  • A little vegetable oil
  • Generous amount of sumac
  • A pinch of cinnamon
  • A pinch of black pepper
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • Saj bread or markook bread
  • Also from Rana, here is meat arayes
  • And also mixed meat and vegetable traybake

Method

Follow the cooking sequence without leaving the page.

  1. Boil the chicken with seasonings until it is well cooked.
  2. Remove the bones from the chicken and shred the meat into fine strands
  3. Fry the onion slices in a little vegetable oil... when they soften add the chicken and a pinch of cinnamon, black pepper, olive oil, and sumac
  4. Sauté them for five minutes and remove from the heat
  5. Cut the saj bread into triangles by slicing the loaf lengthwise and widthwise in half to get four triangular pieces
  6. Divide the chicken filling after it cools into the triangles and roll them up into spirals or rolls
  7. Place them in an oiled Pyrex dish and brush the top of the musakhan with olive oil as well
  8. Put them in the oven until the chicken musakhan browns on the bottom, then brown them on top while monitoring
