How to Make Apple Jam

Apple jam is one of the most delicious preserves. It's very easy to make, and since apples are available year-round you can make it anytime. Jam is lovely spread with butter at breakfast.

Apple jam — a delicious, homemade and nutritious treat

Ingredients

Start here, then move straight into the method.

  • 1 kg apples
  • 3/4 kg sugar (or more, depending on the apples' sweetness)
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • To make toast at home to serve with the jam for breakfast, here is the link: Whole wheat toast bread
  • For more jams from Alissar, here's Apricot Jam

Method

Follow the cooking sequence without leaving the page.

  1. Peel the apples, remove the cores, then cut them into small cubes so they cook easily
  2. Put the apples with the sugar and a very small amount of water in a pot
  3. Let them come to a boil and skim off the foam whenever it appears
  4. Stir them every so often so they don't stick to the bottom
  5. When the liquids reduce and become syrupy and the apples are well cooked, press them with the large spoon until they are mashed
  6. After that add the juice of one sour lemon and stir, then turn off the heat
  7. Spoon the jam into clean, dry glass jars that have been sterilized in the sun
  8. After they cool, close them tightly
  9. Store the jars in the refrigerator after opening because the jam contains no preservatives
