How to Make Turkish Delight

Turkish delight made with a detailed recipe! Food coloring can be added as desired, in any color you like. It’s delicious sandwiched between two plain biscuits.

Turkish delight is one of the least expensive sweets... it tastes delicious when eaten between two plain biscuits

Ingredients

Start here, then move straight into the method.

  • 2 cups water
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 8 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons rose water or orange blossom water
  • A squeeze of lemon
  • Cornstarch for coating the Turkish delight
  • Red food coloring - optional

Method

Follow the cooking sequence without leaving the page.

  1. In a pot over the heat, add the sugar and water and stir, then add the cornstarch, rose water or orange blossom water, lemon juice, and food coloring (optional). Place the pot over low heat, stirring constantly until the sugar dissolves.
  2. Increase the heat and stir until it thickens, then lower the heat again and continue stirring for one hour.
  3. In a container or glass Pyrex dish, spread a thick layer of cornstarch and pour the mixture over the cornstarch.
  4. Wet a spoon with water and smooth the surface of the hot Turkish delight mixture.
  5. Distribute some cornstarch on top as well.
  6. Close the container or cover the Pyrex dish and leave it in the fridge for a full day or 6 hours in the freezer.
    Timers: 360 min
  7. When the Turkish delight sets, cut it and it is ready.
