Recipe story

How to make mayonnaise at home with a wonderful, tried-and-tested recipe that is sure to work for you! This recipe will save you from buying mayonnaise ready-made, because homemade mayonnaise is tastier, cleaner, and less expensive. This recipe uses egg, though mayonnaise can also be made without egg.

Ingredients

  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 tablespoon vinegar
  • 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar

Method

  1. In a deep bowl, combine the egg, vinegar, lemon juice, salt, and sugar.
  2. Whisk all the ingredients well, either in a blender, food processor, or with a hand mixer.
  3. Gradually add the vegetable oil slowly until the mixture thickens and becomes smooth and well combined.
  4. It is possible for the mixture to thicken before all the oil is used, so it is best to add the oil as needed until you reach the desired mayonnaise consistency.
  5. Transfer the mayonnaise to a tightly sealed jar or container and keep it in the refrigerator.
  6. Homemade mayonnaise can be stored in the refrigerator for 5 days.
