How to Make Raisins at Home

Raisins are among the most delicious dried fruits and one of the most commonly used. We use them in both sweet and savory dishes, so it is handy to make them at home instead of buying them ready-made.

Ingredients

Start here, then move straight into the method.

  • 3 kg seedless grapes
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 9 cups water
  • Note
  • One of the essential conditions for successful raisins is strong sunshine. They will need about 6 to 10 days to become ready to eat.
  • Every 3 kg of fresh grapes yields about 1 kg of raisins.

Method

Follow the cooking sequence without leaving the page.

  1. In a pot over the heat, combine the water with the baking soda, lemon juice, and oil.
  2. Wash the grapes beforehand and let them drain in a colander.
  3. Just before the water boils, when it is almost at a boil, drop in the grape clusters for only one minute (you can divide the clusters if the pot cannot hold the full amount).
  4. Place the clusters in a colander until completely cool, then remove the grapes from the stems and spread them on a clean, large cloth under direct sunlight, turning them every morning and evening.
  5. In the evening, cover the grapes to protect them from moisture or dew, then uncover them again in the morning. Repeat this for several days, at least 6 days.
  6. Finally, wash the raisins, drain them, and air-dry them well until you are sure they are completely dry, then store them in jars or tightly sealed containers.
  7. You can enjoy raisins in raisin bread
  8. You can also use raisins in brioche pastries... here is brioche with raisins and coconut
  9. What do you think about making sweet pasta with raisins
