Recipe story

How to make bagel bread with a tried-and-true homemade recipe that’s sure to turn out well!

Ingredients

  • 750 g flour, equal to 5 cups white flour
  • 20 g, equal to 2 tablespoons yeast
  • 20 g, equal to 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 cups liquid milk, or as needed for the dough
  • 2 tablespoons butter, at room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • rana sbeite bazze

Method

  1. First, knead the dough for about 5 minutes after adding all the ingredients except the butter
    Timers: 5 min
  2. Add the salt and continue kneading, then add the butter and knead the dough well for at least 12 minutes
    Timers: 12 min
  3. Once the kneading is finished well, place the dough in a warm place until it doubles in size for two hours or more
  4. After the required resting and proving time, start shaping the dough
  5. Cut the dough into small pieces and let them rest again for 15 minutes
    Timers: 15 min
  6. Then shape the dough pieces into rings or donut shapes and set them aside
  7. In a separate pot over low heat, place a tablespoon of sugar with a pinch of baking soda and water
  8. When the mixture boils, place the bagels in for a few seconds and turn them over to the other side
  9. Place the bagel rings on a baking tray lined with parchment paper
  10. Brush the tops of the bagels with milk and sugar or egg, and sprinkle sesame seeds and nigella seeds over the bagels
  11. Place the bagels in a preheated oven and leave them for 15 minutes or until nicely browned. It is essential to boil the bagels in water, as this helps keep the bread soft
    Timers: 15 min
