Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 3 teaspoons starch
  • 2 tablespoons qater or syrup
  • A pinch of salt
  • 1 teaspoon yeast
  • 1 1/2 to 2 cups warm water, as needed
  • Shape the awama or put the batter in a piping bag and drop the awama pieces into hot oil just until they take a light blond color.
  • Remove them from the oil and let them cool, then fry them again over medium heat until they are cooked inside and acquire a deep golden color.
  • Remove the fried awama from the oil and place them directly into a bowl of cold syrup, leaving them submerged for 5–7 minutes (the syrup must be thick).

  1. Mix the dry ingredients together..
  2. Add the warm water and start mixing the ingredients with the water by hand, beating the dough..
  3. Let the awama dough rest for about 40 minutes, then mix it again slightly to release the air

  4. Shape the awama, or place it in a piping bag and drop the balls into hot oil, just until they take on a light blond color
  5. Remove them from the oil and leave them aside to cool, then fry them again over medium heat until they are cooked through and turn a dark golden color
  6. Remove the fried awama from the oil and place it immediately into a bowl of cold syrup. Leave it submerged in the syrup for 5-7 minutes (the syrup must be thick
