Ingredients

  • 4 pieces French bread (rolls or slices)
  • 5 cups water
  • 1 cup powdered milk
  • Zest of 1 large lemon
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla powder
  • Sugar syrup (qatir or simple syrup)
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Method

  1. In a bowl, combine the milk, water, vanilla and lemon zest and mix well
  2. Cut the bread in half crosswise, dip the pieces in the milk mixture and let them soak for half an hour until they absorb some of it
  3. Take each piece of bread slowly and carefully place it in hot deep oil
  4. When it becomes dark in color, flip it to the other side
  5. Remove them from the oil and place on paper to absorb excess oil
  6. Dip the French bread dessert in lukewarm syrup, then drain, and serve with fruit as desired
