Recipe story

Pepperoni pizza shaped like a rose — a sweet idea for entertaining and for kids.

Ingredients

  • Ketchup
  • Pepperoni
  • Oregano or dried thyme
  • Mozzarella cheese
  • Butter
  • Vegetable oil
  • 3 cups white flour
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2 teaspoons instant yeast
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons powdered milk
  • Method for preparing the dough:

Method

  1. Put the flour in a bowl and add the salt, oil, and powdered milk, rubbing the ingredients together with your hands.
  2. Put the yeast in a cup with the sugar and a little water, stir and let it activate, then add it to the flour and knead.
  3. Cover the dough with a cloth and let it rise for one hour.
  4. Roll out the risen dough on a clean surface and cut it into long narrow strips — remember you will be rolling them, so make them thin so the rose isn’t too thick.
  5. Spread about 1 tsp ketchup lengthwise on each dough strip.
  6. Place 3 slices of pepperoni side by side so the edges stick out beyond the dough.
  7. Sprinkle mozzarella over the pepperoni and a pinch of oregano, then roll up to form a rose shape — see the photo.
  8. Secure with a toothpick and brush with melted butter or oil.
  9. Arrange the roses on a lightly oiled baking tray.
  10. Bake in a hot oven until the pepperoni pizzas are cooked through.
