Trileçe cake from Turkey — a cake with a delightful caramel flavor.

Ingredients

  • 5 eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1½ cups flour
  • 1½ tsp baking powder
  • For soaking the cake:
  • ½ cup whipping cream
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1½ tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • For the cream topping:
  • 1½ cups whipping cream
  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • Caramel:
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 1 tbsp salted butter
  • ¾ cup whipping cream

Method

  1. Beat the eggs with the vanilla and gradually add the sugar while beating until the mixture becomes thick.
  2. Gradually add the flour and baking powder and fold in.
  3. Grease the baking pan with butter, dust with flour, and pour in the cake batter.
  4. Bake at 170°C (338°F) for about half an hour.
  5. Mix all the ingredients for soaking the cake.
  6. Let the cake cool completely, then pour the soaking mixture over it.
  7. Whip the cream ingredients together and spread the cream evenly over the cake, smoothing the top.
  8. Prepare the caramel at the last stage: melt the sugar over heat until it caramelizes, then add the butter and then the cream, stirring until combined.
  9. When the caramel is ready, pour it over the cream on the Trileçe cake.
  10. Decorate the cake as desired.
  11. Chill the Trileçe cake in the refrigerator long enough to cool completely before serving.
