Ingredients
- 1 medium dry onion
- 1 hot red chili pepper (optional)
- 1 bunch fresh basil
- 1/2 bunch fresh green mint
- Dried or fresh marjoram, as available
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme or oregano
- 1 tablespoon ground cumin
- 1 medium teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon sweet pepper paste
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 3 peeled red tomatoes, finely chopped
- 1 cup coarse bulgur, washed and drained
- Salt to taste
- Basil leaves and walnuts for garnish, or as desired
- Olive oil for serving
Method
- First, place all the ingredients mentioned above, except for the bulgur and tomatoes, in a Moulinex electric food processor and blend until smooth.
- Add the mixture to the washed and drained bulgur and knead everything together.
- When the mixture is well combined and the bulgur is thoroughly moistened, add the tomatoes, adjust the salt, and mix with a spoon.
- Spread the tomato kaamouneh on a serving plate and garnish with fresh basil leaves and walnuts. Serve immediately with olive oil drizzled on top.
