Lentil and rice mudardara with onions, in a very tasty and easy recipe. One of the most practical and delicious vegetarian dishes for the whole family!
Ingredients
- 3 cups medium-wide green lentils
- 1 cup Egyptian rice
- 5 onions, sliced
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil + olive oil
- Salt
- A pinch of black pepper
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon seven-spice blend
Method
- Wash the lentils, drain them, and put them in a pot with about 7 cups of water.
- When the lentils boil, reduce the heat and let them cook only half-way, not fully.
- Add the rice after washing it and soaking it for 15 minutes in hot water.Timers: 15 min
- When the rice is cooked, drain everything in a colander.
- In the same pot, add half the amount of oil and fry a finely chopped onion, adding all the spices and salt.
- When the onion browns slightly, add the lentils with the rice and fold with a fork so the lentils and rice absorb all the flavors.
- Reduce the heat, cover the pot, and leave them for 10 minutes, then turn off the heat.Timers: 10 min
- Add the remaining oil and fry the onions over low heat with a pinch of salt.
- Serve the lentil mudardara with rice alongside yogurt and any salad of your choice...
