Lemon blossom substitute — for Arabic sweets — an easy recipe
Ingredients
- 2 oranges
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup water
- red food coloring (a few drops)
- a squeeze of lemon
- 1 tablespoon orange blossom water

Method
- Peel the orange and remove the white pith.
- Cut the orange peel—after removing the white pith and keeping only the orange layer—into thin strips.
- Boil the peels in water to soften them, then remove and rinse several times to remove the bitterness completely.
- In a saucepan over the heat, put the sugar with 1 cup of water and a few drops of red food coloring.
- When the syrup boils, add the orange peel after draining it well, and add orange blossom water.
- Let them simmer over low heat until they thicken and take the desired color.
- Finally add a squeeze of lemon and turn off the heat immediately.
- Let them cool completely before using to decorate Arabic sweets; they can be kept in the refrigerator in a tightly closed container until use.
