Ingredients

  • 1 package ready-made baklava pastry
  • 3 cups milk
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 cup sugar, or to taste
  • 1 tablespoon rose water
  • 1 tablespoon orange blossom water
  • 1 container ashta or clotted cream
  • 1 tablespoon soft butter
  • 1 cup syrup
  • Pistachios, for garnish

Method

  1. Dissolve the cornstarch and sugar in the milk, place the mixture over medium heat until it thickens. Add rose water and orange blossom water, stir, then remove from the heat and let it cool.
  2. Add a can of clotted cream (qaimar) to the cooked cream and mix well.
  3. Brush the baklava dough with butter, fill and roll it to form shaibiyat shapes. You can use molds to shape the dough. Place the shaibiyat on a baking tray and bake until cooked. Soak the shaibiyat with syrup.
  4. Garnish the shaibiyat with pistachios and serve at room temperature or chilled.
