How to Make Qashatliya Halva

Qashatliya Halva is a cold, incredibly delicious dessert. The key is that it’s very easy to prepare. It relies on milk, starch, and pistachios, and its texture stays soft like jelly when served.

Ingredients

Start here, then move straight into the method.

  • 2 cups powdered milk
  • 6 cups water
  • 4 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon rose water or orange blossom water
  • ground pistachios
  • Syrup

Method

Follow the cooking sequence without leaving the page.

  1. Mix the milk with water and place them in a nonstick saucepan over medium heat, stirring constantly
  2. Dissolve the starch in a separate bowl with a little water until it reaches the consistency of tahini sauce
  3. When the milk begins to boil, add the starch immediately and continue stirring
  4. Let the mixture boil for about 5 to 10 minutes, stirring
    Timers: 10 min
  5. When the mixture thickens slightly, add rose water or orange blossom water, stir, then remove it immediately from the heat
  6. Pour it into a baking dish or Pyrex and sprinkle ground pistachios on top
  7. When it cools, refrigerate it for no less than 4 hours before serving
    Timers: 240 min
  8. Serve qashatliya halva with sugar syrup (qatr) or shireh
  9. Note: qashatliya halva has a slightly soft texture, almost like jello or jelly
