Monkey cake! I’m sure most of you have not heard of it before :) Here is this unconventional recipe that will definitely delight dough lovers :)

Ingredients

  • Walnuts
  • Dough:
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1/2 stick butter
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon yeast
  • 3 tablespoons yogurt
  • 1 1/4 cups or 1 1/2 cups warm milk, as needed
  • For filling the dough:
  • Cream cheese
  • or
  • Chocolate
  • For coating the balls:
  • regular sugar
  • Cinnamon
  • Sauce:
  • brown sugar

Method

  1. We begin by preparing the dough: mix the dry ingredients, then add the butter, yogurt and milk and knead until you have a cohesive, soft dough.
  2. Let the dough rise.
  3. Shape it into small balls.
  4. Fill them with cream cheese or chocolate as desired; you can also leave them unfilled.
  5. Melt a little butter and dip the dough balls in it, then roll them in granulated sugar and cinnamon.
  6. Grease the cake pan with butter and scatter walnuts across the bottom.
  7. Prepare the sauce: put the butter with the brown sugar on low heat until they melt and combine.
  8. Spoon two tablespoons of the sauce over the walnuts, then place the dough balls randomly on top in the pan, then pour the remaining sauce.
  9. The balls should not rise higher than three quarters of the pan to leave room for expansion as they bake and puff up.
  10. Bake the pan in the oven at 180°C for about 45 minutes.
  11. Invert the monkey cake onto a serving plate and serve.
