Monkey cake! I’m sure most of you have not heard of it before :) Here is this unconventional recipe that will definitely delight dough lovers :)

Walnuts

Dough: 3 cups flour 1/2 stick butter 3 tablespoons sugar 1 teaspoon yeast 3 tablespoons yogurt 1 1/4 cups or 1 1/2 cups warm milk, as needed

For filling the dough:

Cream cheese

or

Chocolate

For coating the balls: regular sugar

1/2 stick butter

Cinnamon

Sauce: brown sugar 1/2 stick butter

We start by preparing the dough: mix the dry ingredients, then add the butter, yogurt, and milk and knead until you get a soft, cohesive dough.
Let the dough rise.
Shape it into small balls.
Fill them with cream cheese or chocolate, as desired. You can also leave them unfilled.
Melt a little butter, dip the dough balls in it, then coat them in white sugar and cinnamon.
Grease a cake pan with butter and spread the walnuts over the bottom.
Prepare the sauce: place the butter and brown sugar over low heat until they melt and combine.
Drizzle two tablespoons of the sauce over the walnuts, then place the dough balls randomly over them in the pan. Pour the remaining sauce on top.
The balls should not rise higher than three-quarters of the pan, so there is room for them when they bake and expand.
Bake in a 180°C oven for about 45 minutes.
Invert the monkey cake onto a serving plate and serve.
