Ingredients

  • Simple syrup (Qater or Sheera)
  • Sesame seeds
  • Dough:
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon yeast
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 level teaspoon mahlab
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 3/4 cup liquid milk
  • Pinch of salt

Method

  1. Knead all ingredients together until you get a soft, elastic dough. You can add more milk if the mentioned quantity is not enough to achieve the desired dough consistency.
  2. Form the dough into egg-sized balls or as desired... and let them rest for half an hour.
  3. After this time, roll out each dough ball to a thickness of approximately 2 cm.
  4. Brush the surface of the dough with a little simple syrup (qater or sheera) and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
  5. Let the dough rest for another half an hour after arranging them on a baking tray.
  6. After this time, preheat the oven to 250°C (top and bottom heat)... and let it warm up.
  7. Place the tray in the oven and leave it until the dough puffs up and cooks through.
