How to Make Churros (Fried Dough Dessert)
Churros — fried dough — are a delicious sweet from Latin kitchens. Very easy to make, but the dough should rest for a full day before frying. Try them with melted chocolate and strawberries.

Ingredients
- 1 cup water
- 5 tablespoons butter
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 eggs
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- Nutella or melted chocolate
- Powdered sugar for dusting
- Grated lemon zest for topping — optional
- Strawberries — optional
Method
- Put the water, butter, salt, and sugar in a saucepan over medium heat.
- After the butter melts, add the flour and stir well with a wooden spoon until a cohesive dough forms. Stir for about 2 minutes, then remove from the heat.Timers: 2 min
- Transfer the dough to a bowl and let it cool completely.
- When the dough has cooled, add the first egg and mix well by hand, then add the second egg and the vanilla and knead again.
- Cover the dough well and refrigerate for 24 hours.Timers: 1440 min
- The next day, shape the chilled dough into small rounds and deep-fry the balls immediately in plenty of hot oil.
- Remove the churro balls once they turn golden and place them on paper towels to absorb excess oil.
- Dust with powdered sugar and lemon zest, and serve with room-temperature Nutella or chocolate sauce and fresh strawberries.
