Broccoli with bechamel — an inventive, delicious dish. Here’s how to make it

Ingredients

  • 1 kilo broccoli (or cauliflower, if you prefer)
  • Half kilo ground meat (or chicken breast, cut, if you prefer)
  • 1 medium onion
  • Vegetable oil
  • Salt
  • Black pepper
  • Grated mozzarella cheese
  • Boiled carrot - optional
  • Bechamel:
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 cup flour
  • 4 cups milk
  • White pepper
  • 1 cup liquid cheese – as desired
  • Grated mozzarella cheese

  • In a saucepan over heat, put the oil with a piece of butter and stir, then add 1 cup of flour and stir until they turn light golden…

Method

  1. Put the ground meat in a skillet over the heat with the onion and spices and stir... in the final stage add the salt, stir and remove from heat when ready
  2. Wash the broccoli then boil it in boiling water with some salt... it does not need much water and can be steamed instead so it doesn't become too soft
  3. After boiling.. break the broccoli by hand into small florets and sprinkle with a pinch of salt and a pinch of black pepper
  4. In a Pyrex dish or oven tray .. put a ladle of bechamel in the bottom of the dish then arrange some broccoli florets, then the ground meat, then another ladle of bechamel and repeat until the mixture is finished
  5. On top.. spread a layer of bechamel and distribute the mozzarella
  6. Put the broccoli with bechamel dish into a moderate oven for 30 to 40 minutes
  7. How to make the bechamel:
  8. In a saucepan over heat, put the oil with a piece of butter and stir, then add 1 cup of flour and stir until they turn light golden…
  9. Add the milk and stir with a pinch of salt and a pinch of white pepper and, if desired, add 1 cup of liquid cheese.. continue stirring so the flour does not clump
  10. Stir over low heat until the mixture thickens and then remove it from the heat
