Ingredients

  • Ready-made baklava (kallaj) sheets
  • Filling:
  • Pistachios
  • Walnuts
  • Almonds
  • 1 tbsp orange blossom water
  • 1 tbsp syrup (qatir)
  • For brushing the baklava:
  • 1 cup melted butter
  • Syrup (qatir)
  • Crushed pistachios for garnish
  • For more of Fatima's desserts and other recipes using baklava sheets see: Znood al-sitt with cream

Method

  1. Grind the nuts, then add the syrup and orange blossom water and mix.
  2. Lay out 3 or 4 rectangular ready-made pastry sheets on a clean surface, stacking them on top of each other.
  3. Brush each pastry sheet with melted butter before placing the next sheet on top.
  4. Place about one tablespoon of the filling across each sheet, then roll it like a sandwich.
  5. Arrange the rolls in a Pyrex dish or baking tray after cutting them as desired.
  6. Brush the baklava pieces with melted butter and place them in the center of the oven, watching closely because they need only a few minutes.
  7. When you remove them from the oven, immediately pour warm syrup over them, then garnish with pistachios.
  8. Let the baklava cool completely before serving.
