Method
- Whisk the sugar, milk, and vanilla until the sugar dissolves using a mixer or by hand...
- Add the oil and orange or lemon zest, whisk a little, then add the sifted flour with the baking powder and a pinch of salt in batches
- Pour the batter into a pan greased with butter and dusted with flour, then place slices of cheese on top — each slice of cheese facing another slice
- Put the pan in a preheated oven at 180°C on the middle rack for about 30 minutes... or longer depending on your oven
- When the cake is done, remove it from the oven and brush the top with syrup (qatir) or sheera
