Delicious apple pie... a classic recipe

Ingredients

  • Grated/desiccated coconut
  • Dough:
  • 4 cups flour
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/4 cup water for kneading
  • Filling :
  • 5 large apples
  • 4 tablespoons sugar
  • A pinch of cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup water
  • Note:
  • You can add chopped walnuts or almonds to the filling for a crunchy texture.

Method

  1. Peel and chop the apples into small pieces so they cook quickly. Put the filling ingredients in a pot over the heat and stir until the apples are fully cooked.
  2. Let the filling cool completely before using.
  3. Begin preparing the dough: mix the dry ingredients, then add the eggs and room-temperature butter and rub the ingredients together by hand.
  4. Add the water gradually and knead to form a cohesive dough.
  5. Grease the baking pan with butter, then roll out half of the dough and spread the cooled apple filling evenly over it. Sprinkle with grated coconut.
  6. Shape strips from the remaining dough and arrange them over the top as a lattice.
  7. Place the apple pie in a preheated oven on the middle rack.
  8. Bake until the pastry is cooked and golden, then turn on the top heat/grill to brown the top if desired.
  9. Let the pie cool before serving.
