Delicious apple pie... a classic recipe
Ingredients
- Grated/desiccated coconut
- Dough:
- 4 cups flour
- 1 cup butter
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 tablespoon vanilla
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 2 eggs
- 1/4 cup water for kneading
- Filling :
- 5 large apples
- 4 tablespoons sugar
- A pinch of cinnamon
- 1/2 cup water
- Note:
- You can add chopped walnuts or almonds to the filling for a crunchy texture.

Method
- Peel and chop the apples into small pieces so they cook quickly. Put the filling ingredients in a pot over the heat and stir until the apples are fully cooked.
- Let the filling cool completely before using.
- Begin preparing the dough: mix the dry ingredients, then add the eggs and room-temperature butter and rub the ingredients together by hand.
- Add the water gradually and knead to form a cohesive dough.
- Grease the baking pan with butter, then roll out half of the dough and spread the cooled apple filling evenly over it. Sprinkle with grated coconut.
- Shape strips from the remaining dough and arrange them over the top as a lattice.
- Place the apple pie in a preheated oven on the middle rack.
- Bake until the pastry is cooked and golden, then turn on the top heat/grill to brown the top if desired.
- Let the pie cool before serving.
