How to make wheat harees with meat — a tried and very tasty recipe!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups hulled wheat (or more to taste)
  • 500 g meat (cut into shank pieces)
  • Salt
  • Ground cinnamon and 2 cinnamon sticks
  • Baharat (seven-spice blend)
  • Onion

Method

  1. Rinse the wheat, boil it until partially cooked, then set it aside.
  2. Boil the meat once and discard the first cooking water. Then add fresh water with salt, the cinnamon sticks and the onion, and cook in a pressure cooker for 20 minutes or in a regular pot until the meat is fully tender.

  3. After the meat is cooked, add the boiled wheat to the pot with the meat and simmer together so the dish thickens and the flavors meld.
  4. Add seasonings such as salt, ground cinnamon and baharat (seven-spice).
  5. You can continue cooking the wheat until the grains are fully tender but not mashed, depending on the texture you prefer.
