Make Turkish delight at home with this super easy recipe! Turkish delight is one of the more affordable sweets and is often served between two biscuits. Here’s how to make it.

Ingredients

Start here, then move straight into the method.

  • 3 cups syrup
  • 3/4 cup cornstarch
  • A packet of mastic
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 tbsp orange blossom water
  • 1 tsp butter
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch mixed with 1/2 cup powdered sugar for coating
  • Syrup
  • 4 cups sugar
  • 2 1/4 cups water
  • A squeeze of lemon
  • How to make the syrup
  • Note
  • You can substitute rose water or vanilla for the orange blossom water, depending on your preference and the flavor you want.
  • The butter gives the Turkish delight a nice flavor as well as softness.
  • For more delicious sweets, we recommend trying Pumpkin Cake by Ruwayda as well.
  • Apple Cake with Crème Caramel is another great dessert recipe.

Method

Follow the cooking sequence without leaving the page.

  1. Put the sugar, water, and lemon juice in a pot over the heat.
  2. After it comes to a boil, let it simmer for 10 minutes over low heat.
    Timers: 10 min
  3. First, prepare the syrup and take 3 cups of it, then set the rest aside.
  4. Dissolve the cornstarch in 1/2 cup cold water, then add it to the syrup in the pot.
  5. Whisk well and place over the heat until it boils, stirring, then reduce the heat.
  6. Continue stirring while it simmers over low heat for 10 minutes without stopping.
    Timers: 10 min
  7. Crush the mastic in advance with 1 tablespoon of sugar, then add it to the syrup-and-cornstarch mixture. Add the orange blossom water too and continue stirring for 5 more minutes.
  8. Scoop out a little of the mixture, about a spoonful, and set it aside in a bowl to check whether it needs more cooking. It should have a stretchy texture.
  9. When the texture becomes stretchy, add the butter, which keeps the Turkish delight soft, and stir until melted, then remove from the heat.
  10. Grease the tray or container you want to pour the Turkish delight into with a little oil. Pour in the mixture, then sprinkle a little cornstarch and powdered sugar on top and cover the container with plastic wrap.
  11. Let it sit for about 4 hours at room temperature, then turn it out, sprinkle with cornstarch and powdered sugar again, and cut the large piece of Turkish delight into small or medium cubes as desired.
    Timers: 240 min
  12. Store in an airtight container.
