How to Make Turkish Simit

Turkish simit made at home and it couldn’t be better
Ingredients
Start here, then move straight into the method.
- 3 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon yeast
- 1 teaspoon mahlab
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 1/2 cup yogurt
- 1/2 cup lukewarm water
- Topping
- 2 tablespoons date molasses
- 2 tablespoons water
- Sesame seeds
- To serve with simit (optional)
- Date molasses
- Tahini

- This quantity is enough to make 8 Turkish simit.

Method
Follow the cooking sequence without leaving the page.
- Mix the dry ingredients separately, and mix the liquid ingredients—oil, yogurt, and water—together.
- Add the liquid ingredients to the dry mixture and start kneading until you get a smooth dough.
- Let the dough rest for 1 hour before shaping.Timers: 60 min
- Divide the dough into medium balls and shape them as shown in the picture.
- Let them rest for another 15 minutes.Timers: 15 min
- Dissolve 2 tablespoons of date molasses in 2 tablespoons of water, then dip the tops of the simit dough in the molasses mixture and then in sesame seeds.
- Arrange the pieces on a tray greased with a little oil or lined with parchment paper.
- Place the tray of Turkish simit on the middle rack of the oven and bake at 200°C for about half an hour, or حسب the oven.
- Brown them slightly on top.
- When serving, mix date molasses with an equal amount of tahini (or to taste) to make the molasses-tahini sauce for dipping.
