Easy Asruniya Kaak Recipe

A wonderful recipe made with ingredients found in every home for making Asruniya cake, also known in Lebanon as Kaak Abu Arab. Asruniya kaak is one of our favorite recipes, and this version makes it incredibly easy to prepare at home.

Ingredients

Start here, then move straight into the method.

  • 1 kilo flour
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon instant yeast
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil

Method

Follow the cooking sequence without leaving the page.

  1. Put the yeast, sugar, and salt in a deep bowl, stir, and leave for 10 minutes.
    Timers: 10 min
  2. Then add the flour and knead well; cover with plastic wrap and a clean cloth.
  3. Let the dough rest for 2 to 3 hours. When it has risen, flatten it by hand or with a rolling pin into medium-sized circles.
    Timers: 180 min
  4. Cut a small circle inside the larger circle of dough (as shown in the accompanying photos). Brush a little oil on the cake and let it rise again for about an hour before sprinkling a little sesame on top and placing it in the preheated oven.
  5. Bake the cake until it browns and puffs, about 12 minutes.
    Timers: 12 min
  6. This cake can be served with knafeh, za'atar, or cheese.
