How to Make Sayadieh Fish
A tasty and very easy Sayadieh fish recipe. This version is approachable for any home cook, even beginners.
Ingredients
Start here, then move straight into the method.
- Fish of choice
- 3 large onions
- 2 1/2 cups rice
- 1 tablespoon ground cumin
- Pinch of nutmeg
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- Hot pepper or chili to taste
- 1/4 teaspoon caraway
- Salt
- Garlic
- Spices to taste: cinnamon stick, cloves, cardamom
Method
Follow the cooking sequence without leaving the page.
- Choose the type of fish based on availability and preference, but ideally fish with a good amount of flesh.
- The fish can be fillets or skinless fillet pieces.
- Fry the fish first, then reserve some of the oil and fry the sliced onions until deeply golden-brown. Add the minced garlic.
- Meanwhile, remove bones from the fish and add them to the onions with the spices. Add 4 cups of water (or as needed for your rice).
- Let the mixture boil for about 5 minutes to make a brownish sauce, stirring occasionally. Then add rinsed rice and simmer until cooked.Timers: 5 min
- Top with the remaining fish and a few fried pine nuts, if desired.
