- 4 cups milk
- 5 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 cup milk for syrup 2
- Ice cream
- Chopped nuts: almonds, hazelnuts, and pistachios
- 2 teaspoons rose water or orange blossom water
- Mastic to taste
Method
- Put the milk in a small pot over the heat, stirring constantly until it begins to boil.
- Dissolve the corn starch in a little water ..
- Add the dissolved starch to the boiling milk, continuing to stir quickly over medium heat until the milk thickens to a custard-like consistency..
- Add the mastic, turn off the heat, then add rose water or orange blossom water while stirring the milk well.
- Pour the thickened milk into a baking dish and leave it to cool. Gently add very cold water to its surface, then place the dish in the refrigerator.
- Prepare the condensed milk syrup by mixing liquid milk with a quantity of sugar, and continue stirring until the sugar dissolves completely.
- Remove the dish after it has cooled well in the refrigerator, then cut the heytliya into medium-sized cubes and place them on the serving plate, then add the condensed milk on top with vanilla ice cream or milk.
- Sprinkle coarsely ground pistachios or almonds over it and serve the heytliya cold.
