Ingredients

Start here, then move straight into the method.

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/2 kg (500 g) all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 kg fine semolina (or "farikha" flour)
  • 1 tbsp ground anise
  • 1 tbsp yeast dissolved in 1 cup warm water
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • oil for frying
  • syrup (qatir or shira)

Method

Follow the cooking sequence without leaving the page.

  1. Put the white flour together with farikha flour and mix them, then add the melted butter with the oil and mix.
  2. Add the sugar, anise, and the yeast mixture and mix.
  3. Add 1 cup water and knead well.
  4. Divide the dough into equal balls and shape the pieces by passing them over the surface of a plastic sieve to get the desired shape so they become oval.
  5. Heat the oil in a deep pan and fry the Maakaroon sweets until the pieces turn golden.
  6. Remove the Maaaring pieces from the oil and drain them.
  7. After draining the oil, place the Maakaroon sweets in the hot syrup.
  8. Drain them from the syrup and serve them cold at room temperature.
