Basbousa dessert is one of the easiest Arabic sweets! Just mix the ingredients well, spread the batter in a baking tray, and wait for the wonderful result. Pour cold syrup over it while it is still hot.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups fine semolina
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 cup melted ghee
  • 1 cup shredded coconut
  • 1 cup sugar
  • Cold syrup

Method

Follow the cooking sequence without leaving the page.

  1. In a bowl, mix the semolina and baking powder well.
  2. Add the melted ghee to the semolina mixture, then add the sugar and vanilla, and mix well.
  3. Finally, add the buttermilk and shredded coconut and mix well.
  4. Pour the basbousa mixture into a tray greased with a little tahini.
  5. Bake the tray in a hot oven over low heat.
  6. When the basbousa is cooked and golden on both sides, remove it from the oven, pour over the cold syrup, and decorate the top with shredded coconut.
  7. Let it cool well at room temperature before serving.
