Ingredients
Start here, then move straight into the method.
- Basbousa batter
- 1 cup coarse semolina
- 1 cup oil
- 1 cup shredded coconut
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 carton qimar ashta
- 1 cup yogurt
- Ashta filling
- 3 small tablespoons milk powder
- 3 and 1/4 small tablespoons cornstarch
- 3 small tablespoons sugar
- 1 1/2 cups water
- 4 pieces cream cheese
- Syrup
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup water
- A few drops orange blossom water
Method
Follow the cooking sequence without leaving the page.
- Mix the basbousa batter ingredients well
- Grease a baking tray or pyrex dish with oil and sprinkle it with flour, then spread half of the batter evenly
- Place the tray in the oven at 180°C for 10 minutesTimers: 10 min
- Meanwhile, mix the ashta filling ingredients and place them in a pot over the heat, stirring constantly until the ashta thickens
- Remove the basbousa tray from the oven once it is baked, spread the filling over it, and return it to the oven for 2 minutesTimers: 2 min
- Spread the remaining basbousa batter over the filling, then return it to the oven and turn on the top heat only
- When the basbousa with ashta is done, remove it from the oven, pour the cold syrup over it, and cut it while it is still hot
- Let it cool to room temperature
