Cheese honeycomb bread with a successful homemade recipe that kids will love. For breakfast or as a school snack, this recipe is always a good choice and much requested.

Ingredients

  • 5 cups flour
  • 1/2 cup powdered milk, undissolved
  • 1 small packet instant yeast or 1 tablespoon
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • Warm water, as needed
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • Any available type of cheese
  • 1 egg, beaten with 2 tablespoons liquid milk for brushing the dough
  • Note:
  • The dough should be slightly soft so we get a tender honeycomb bread.
  • Using powdered milk in the dough helps keep it soft after baking and gives it a beautiful golden color.

Method

  1. Sift the flour with powdered milk into a large bowl, then add the sugar, salt, and yeast and mix
  2. Mix the oil and warm water together in a separate bowl, then pour them over the flour mixture and knead until a smooth, soft dough forms
  3. Cover the dough and leave it for 30 minutes in a dry, warm place to rise
    Timers: 30 min
  4. After the time has passed... shape the dough into walnut-sized balls
  5. Flatten each ball, fill it with cheese, then reshape it into a ball
  6. Arrange them on a tray greased with a little vegetable oil
  7. Brush the tops with the egg and milk mixture
  8. Place the tray in a hot oven at 190°C for thirty minutes until the dough browns slightly at the edges
  9. Brown the Cheese Honeycomb on top
  10. Remove the tray from the oven and leave it for ten minutes, then drizzle with cold syrup (this step is optional)
  11. The dough should be slightly soft to obtain a tender-textured honeycomb
  12. Using powdered milk in the dough also helps keep the dough soft after baking and gives it a beautiful golden color.
