Whole wheat toast... a highly requested recipe
Ingredients
- 2 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
- 1 tbsp yeast
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 cup warm water
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- A small coffee cup of whole oats for the top
Method
- Mix 1 cup of the flour with the sugar, yeast, salt and oil and leave for 10 minutes to ferment slightly.Timers: 10 min
- Add the remaining 1 1/2 cups flour and knead well until you have a cohesive dough that is neither too soft nor too firm.
- Shape the dough by hand, then place it in a greased and lightly floured loaf pan. Top with the oats.
- Let it rise for 1 hour until well doubled in size.Timers: 60 min
- Place the loaf pan on the middle rack of the oven at moderate temperature for 15 minutes.Timers: 15 min
- After 15 minutes, cover the top with aluminum foil and leave in the oven another 15 minutes.Timers: 15 min
- When the top of the whole wheat loaf is baked, remove it from the oven and let it cool at room temperature before slicing.
- Note: If you want toasted slices, after slicing place them on a baking tray and toast on low heat until browned, watching carefully.
