Method
- Wash the lentils, then put them in a pot with 6 cups of water and simmer them until they are a quarter cooked.
- Add the washed rice on top, then leave them over medium heat until the rice begins to cook.
- In a skillet, place the chopped onion with the oil and fry until it softens and browns.
- Add the onions over the lentils and let the mujaddara cook until the ingredients are very well cooked, even to the point of thickening.
- If the mujaddara is too stiff, add a little water as needed, then let the mujaddara simmer briefly and spoon it into bowls.
- Serve the stewed rice mujaddara hot or cold alongside vegetables and salads, especially cabbage salad
