Ingredients

  • 6 potatoes, peeled and cut into cubes
  • 3 tomatoes, peeled and cut into cubes
  • 200 g finely ground meat
  • Small pearl onions or 4 onions, cut into wide slices
  • 1 tablespoon curry seasoning
  • 1 tablespoon turmeric
  • 1 chicken bouillon cube
  • Meat marinade:
  • 1 beaten egg
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon mustard
  • 4 tablespoons breadcrumbs or ground crackers
  • 1 medium teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt
  • 1 tablespoon vinegar
  • Black pepper

Method

  1. Mix the ground meat with the spices, shape it into small balls, and fry them in a little vegetable oil. Set aside.
  2. In the same pot used to fry the meat, add the onions and 1 teaspoon of curry paste or curry seasoning.
  3. Stir the onions with 2 bay leaves until softened, then add the tomatoes and mix well.
  4. Fry the potato cubes, drain them well from the oil, then add them over the onions and tomatoes.
  5. Add the curry seasoning, turmeric, or yellow spice, along with the chicken bouillon cube, and stir well with a little salt.
  6. Add hot water over the mixture, just enough to cover it.
  7. After the vegetable mixture comes to a boil for a few minutes, add the fried meat balls.
  8. Let the meat balls and vegetables simmer together for several minutes.
  9. Here, you can either dissolve 2 tablespoons of starch in a little water and add it to the mixture to thicken it, then turn off the heat, or you can add a small carton of cooking cream and also turn off the heat.
  10. Serve the potato, meat, and curry stew with cooked basmati white rice or with rice with vermicelli.
