Maghli
Maghli, also known as karawiya, is a popular dessert served in the Levant when a baby is born. You can adjust the amount of sugar to achieve the desired sweetness.
Ingredients

- 9 cups water
- 1 cup ground rice
- 1 1/4 tablespoons ground cinnamon
- 1 1/4 tablespoons finely ground caraway
- 2 cups sugar
- Note
- There are different versions of maghli, although they all rely on ground rice and caraway in their ingredients. Some recipes add boiled anise to the mixture, and as the mixture thickens, more boiled anise is added.
Method

- Put the rice and water in a deep pot over the heat; when the water starts to boil, add the sugar, cinnamon and caraway, and continue stirring until the mixture thickens.
- Continue stirring the mixture until you obtain a thick, homogeneous mixture.
- Pour the maghli into serving cups.
- Garnish the maghli with grated coconut and a variety of nuts such as almonds, walnuts, pine nuts, pistachios and raisins.
