Lasagna

Lasagna — a rich Italian dish layered with two sauces between lasagna sheets. Choose plain lasagna, spinach, or your preferred type. Don’t forget the cheese on top!

Lasagna — one of the most famous Italian dishes. Its reputation is deserved thanks to its richness and deliciousness when prepared the traditional way.

Ingredients

Start here, then move straight into the method.

  • Lasagna sheets
  • Grated cheese, as desired
  • Red sauce / Bolognese
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • Minced meat
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 2 stalks parsley, chopped
  • 2 tomatoes, finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 cup water
  • A pinch of seven-spice blend
  • A pinch of salt
  • White sauce / Béchamel
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 tbsp flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup grated Kashkaval or any cheese of choice
  • A pinch of white pepper
  • 1 cup cooking cream

Method

Follow the cooking sequence without leaving the page.

  1. Start by preparing the Bolognese sauce: sauté the finely chopped onion with the minced meat and minced garlic.
  2. Stir and when they soften and the meat dries out, add the parsley and stir.
  3. Add the chopped tomatoes, tomato paste and water.
  4. Sprinkle with spices and salt and let the sauce simmer over medium heat for about 15 minutes, then remove from the heat.
    Timers: 15 min
  5. Prepare the béchamel sauce at the same time: in a saucepan, melt the butter with the flour and stir quickly to avoid lumps.
  6. Add the milk, grated cheese and seasoning and stir.
  7. Let them cook over low heat for about 10 minutes.
    Timers: 10 min
  8. Then add the liquid cream, bring to a brief boil, and remove from the heat.
  9. Arrange the lasagna in a baking dish or Pyrex: place a layer of uncooked lasagna sheets at the bottom of the dish.
  10. Spread a little Bolognese sauce over them, then cover with lasagna sheets.
  11. Then layer béchamel, lasagna sheets, Bolognese, lasagna sheets and so on until the ingredients are used up — but the final top layer must be béchamel.
  12. Bake the dish until the lasagna sheets are cooked.
  13. Finally sprinkle cheese on top and brown it under the grill for 5 minutes only or until the cheese is colored.
    Timers: 5 min
  14. Serve the lasagna after it cools slightly so it can set before cutting.
